I wrote this poem as an exercise in trying to find the strangest POV possible and write from it with empathy and encourage that same empathy from any reader. I chose to write from the perspective of a slug and centre the piece around body dysmorphia and the idea of the speaker exploring their own body through unusual language and voice.
I have written the piece in a sad, childlike voice full of errors and missteps, gently guiding the reader through the work. I turned this piece into a collage artwork, using cut-out images of floral art prints to simulate a dinner tablecloth. In this way, the poem itself resembles the slime trail of a slug crawling over a table top. The green font helps to simulate this effect.
